(AP) ? One of the world's most endangered turtles has been released into a Cambodian river with a satellite transmitter attached to its shell to track how it will navigate through commercial fishing grounds and other man-made hazards.

The 75-pound (34-kilogram) southern river terrapin ? one of only about 200 adults remaining in the wild ? waddled into the Sre Ambel river in southwestern Cambodia this past week to the cheers of local residents and conservationists.

The New York-based Wildlife Conservation Society said the female terrapin was given to the group last year instead of being sold to traffickers who have decimated the country's population of turtles and other species to cater to demand for exotic wildlife in China.

The southern river terrapin, once considered the sole property of Cambodia's kings, only survives in the wilds of Malaysia, Indonesia and Cambodia, the group said in a statement. The population in the Sre Ambel river is estimated at less than 10 nesting females.

But it said the terrapins there have an excellent chance of recovery because coastal mangrove forests in the region are among the largest and most pristine in Southeast Asia, spanning some 175 square miles (45,000 hectares).

The first-ever satellite monitoring of the species hopes to determine how the turtle will fare among fisherman as well as in areas threatened by sand mining and conversion of mangrove forests into shrimp farms.

A small population of the species was found in 2000 in Sre Ambel after being considered locally extinct for many years.

Following the brutal rule of the Khmer Rouge in the mid-1970s which left the country devastated, poor rural dwellers scoured the forests for wildlife, much of which was sold to traders connected to China, where many wild animals ? from turtles to tigers ? are believed to possess medicinal and sex-enhancing properties.

The turtle project is being run by the Wildlife Conservation Society in cooperation with the Cambodian government and Wildlife Reserves Singapore, a zoological enterprise.

Sony schedules PSN maintenance today, wants you to know this time it's on purpose

Sony knows you're likely scarred for life after its many security snafus, so it's doing all it can to keep you in the loop in regards to its PSN. The network will be experiencing a temporary outage today to make room for "routine scheduled maintenance" starting at 11AM ET and ending at approximately midnight. As usual in these scenarios, you won't have access to any PlayStation services on your PS3 or PSP, including PlayStation Home and Sony's Music and Video Unlimited offerings. That said, if you were shootin' and slashin' fools before the downtime, you should have no hassle continuing with your current session -- though access to any of the aforementioned services is still out of the question. Desperate to know exactly when the PSN will be back up and running? Keep it locked on the Playstation Twitter feed to find out.

Madonna Sort of Calls Lady Gaga's "Born This Way" a Rip-Off

Are tensions rising between Madonna and Lady Gaga?

In an interview with Newsweek (via the Daily Beast), Madonna commented that Lady Gaga's 2011 single "Born This Way" was a "redo" of her "Express Yourself."

"I thought, this is a wonderful way to redo my song [1989's "Express Yourself"]," she says. "I mean, I recognized the chord changes. I thought it was... interesting."

High praise ... not. Here's a side-by-side comparison:

Madonna herself is hardly the only one who's noticed the similarity. NME asked Gaga last year if the song was knockoff of Madonna's hit. She wasn't happy.

"I'm a songwriter. I've written loads of music," the 25-year-old fumed. "Why would I try to put out a song and think I'm getting one over on everybody?"

"What a completely ridiculous thing to even question me about. If you put the songs next to each other, side by side, the only similarities are the chord progression."

"Just because I'm the first f***ing artist in 25 years to think of putting it on Top 40 radio, it doesn't mean I'm a plagiarist, it means that I'm f***ing smart. Sorry."

Strikes a nerve, clearly. That said, both Gaga and Madonna have claimed to be fans of each other's work in the past, and there's no real sign of bad blood.

Did Gaga rip off Madonna?

Citi launches Chinese renminbi trade settlement in Sri Lanka

Citi launches Chinese renminbi trade settlement in Sri Lanka

Citi?s global transaction services has launched its renminbi settlement services in Sri Lanka. As the trade volumes between Sri Lanka and China continue to grow, this solution supports Sri Lankan companies by eliminating crosscurrency exchange risks.

Developed to serve corporations involved in international trade, Citi?s renminbi settlement services enable companies to open and maintain renminbi accounts in renminbi with Citi, and make renminbi payments directly to beneficiaries. This service has been made possible by the recognition of the Chinese currency as a settlement currency by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka is a market for Chinese goods & services, and runs a sizeable, and growing, bilateral trade. Today, China finances the majority of Sri Lanka?s largest infrastructure projects, provides credit, and is the one of the biggest investors in the country. China remains a key market for the Sri Lankan government in supporting its ongoing economic growth.

Beyonce baby complaints at NY hospital dismissed

NEW YORK (AP) ? State health officials on Wednesday dismissed complaints that patients in a hospital neonatal unit were mistreated while Beyonce was there giving birth to her and Jay-Z's daughter.

They had received two complaints about Manhattan's Lenox Hill Hospital, one made anonymously, the other from someone who had learned about the matter through the media, a health department spokesman said. Officials reviewed the complaints and dismissed them Wednesday night, spokesman Jeffrey Gordon said without elaborating.

The hospital, a popular choice for the rich and famous from late philanthropist Brooke Astor to "30 Rock" star Tina Fey, said it was conducting its own probe.

Beyonce gave birth to the couple's baby, Blue Ivy Carter, at the hospital on Saturday.

Media reports said Beyonce and Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, paid $1 million to take over a floor and their security guard blocked parents from the neonatal unit for hours. The hospital denied the reports, saying the couple paid the standard rate for an executive suite without disclosing what that is.

One new mother, Rozz Nash-Coulon, told The Associated Press that her twins, born Dec. 28, were in the neonatal unit and, starting Friday, intense security measures made it a struggle to see them as guards directed hallway traffic.

"Once they checked in there was high security everywhere," she said Monday. "It looked like the president was on our floor. The hospital's security cameras were taped over. Internal windows from the hallways into the ward were blacked out."

The hospital's executive director was heading up its own inquiry into the complaints, hospital spokeswoman Barbara Osborn said. The hospital was interviewing parents who had children in the newborn wing when Jay-Z and Beyonce were there, she said.

"We have spoken to seven out of the 10," she said. "None have reported being stopped from seeing their babies."

She confirmed that security cameras were briefly taped over when the Carter family was being moved, "but only when a security guard was present" on the fourth floor, where the neonatal unit is located. She declined to say why they were taped over.

She said that other parents at the unit did notice "enhanced security." But she said none felt restricted from accessing the unit or any other at the hospital.

Jay-Z confirmed the birth of the couple's daughter in a song released on his social website Life and Times on Monday.

Anti-Romney Bain film: The back story (Politico)

Before Newt Gingrich?s super PAC paid $40,000 for the stinging anti-Mitt Romney documentary that?s roiling the GOP presidential campaign, Jon Huntsman?s allies expressed interest in it.

Veteran GOP adman Fred Davis, who is a key adviser to the pro-Huntsman Our Destiny PAC, was impressed by the introduction to the half-hour documentary, ?When Mitt Romney Came to Town,? and took it to his group?s board.

The board ?decided not to move forward with it? because ?we simply saw it too late to seriously consider,? Davis told POLITICO.

Still, he predicted the film?s portrayal of Romney as a cold-hearted ?corporate raider? could be used to devastating effect against the former Massachusetts governor.

?Think ?Swift Boats?,? he said of the movie, calling the introduction ?very well made and powerful stuff.? that seemed ?to be accurate portrayals of various individuals and situations.?

Though the full documentary has yet to be released, a three-minute trailer posted on Winning Our Future?s website features interviews with people who worked at companies taken over by Bain, who bash Romney while a narrator accuses him of ?exploiting dozens of American businesses.?

Romney?s campaign has cried foul over the movie?s line of attack, asserting it plays into Democrats? hands by vilifying capitalism and mischaracterizing Romney?s days at the helm of the investment firm Bain Capital. And some conservatives have suggested funny business, questioning the money and motives behind the movie, which is likely to become a major force in the coming days.

The pro-Gingrich super PAC Winning Our Future ? fueled by a $5 million contribution from casino magnate Sheldon Adelson ? intends to use the movie as the basis for a hard-hitting multi-million-dollar advertising campaign targeting Romney this week in South Carolina.

The real consideration Davis and Our Destiny gave to obtaining the movie, which the super PAC had previously minimized, highlights the emerging consensus among Romney opponents that the Bain attack that it may be their best shot to slow Romney?s march to the GOP nomination ? even if it is ideologically unorthodox for conservatives.

The movie?s producer Barry Bennett, who previously consulted for a pro-Rick Perry super PAC, told POLITICO that Our Destiny came closer to buying the film than even Davis admits.

?Fred had seen the film and they liked the film and we had conference calls with their attorney,? said Bennett. ?But they were having some money problems, and they were supposed to get back to me and I just proceeded with another opportunity.?

Our Destiny has aired more than $2 million worth of ads supporting Huntsman and ripping Romney. And Davis brushed off Bennett?s characterization, asserting he ?never had a discussion of money? with Bennett.

Both men rejected complaints from Romney allies that the movie plays into Democrats? hands.

AT&T 4G lineup: Lots of awesomeness

Matt Rivera / msnbc.com

AT&T's Ralph De La Vega, introducing the Sony Xperia Ion phone.

By Wilson Rothman

AT&T's top brass took the stage at the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas to show off 4G LTE phones from Sony, Samsung, HTC and Pantech, including the Xperia ion, Sony's first U.S. phone without Ericsson co-branding, the huge-screen Samsung Galaxy Note and Pantech's waterproof Pantech Element tablet. Microsoft's Steve Ballmer appeared with the chiefs of HTC and Nokia to introduce the HTC Titan II, the first 4G LTE Windows Phone, and a teaser for Nokia's first 4G LTE phone.

Sony broke free of the Ericsson co-branding a bit ago, and the Xperia Ion will likely be the first phone to hit the U.S. It's gorgeous, and apparently has an awesome camera, but AT&T didn't share much detail on it, except that it would be available in the second quarter of the year.

Samsung, not surprisingly, has a serious cluster of hardware, including the "under $50"?Exhilarate, made from recycled materials with a 4-in. display; the?Galaxy S II Skyrocket HD???"razor thin, and you can actually remove the battery"???and the kind-of-tablet-kind-of-phone Galaxy Note, with 5.3-inch screen and special S Pen stylus, so you can draw notes on top of the screen in "canvas view," to save for later.

Pantech will have the waterproof Element tablet and an "under $50" super-AMOLED-screened Burst phone running on 4G LTE. People will be able to buy both the tablet and the phone, with contract, for $250. (They didn't specify if that also means a shared data plan, but we'll look into it.)

Matt Rivera / msnbc.com

The HTC Titan II is the first LTE Windows Phone for AT&T, and as far as wel can tell, the first LTE for any carrier in the U.S. Available in "the coming months," it's a totally amped-up phone, with a 16-megapixel camera. I'm gonna go on a limb and say that's more pixels than necessary, and from what I've seen of HTC's imaging, I'm not confident it's an automatically awesome camera, but that spec did make the crowd gasp, me included.

Though Nokia's Stephen Elop was on stage, he didn't unveil his 4G LTE phone for AT&T, possibly because then nobody would show up to his press event. Stay tuned for that.

The Cancer Full Moon of 8 January 2012: 'A Wedding' ? Julie ...

'Choosing the Wedding Gown' Goldsmith c1840 {{PD-Art}}

This is from the Full Moon report available in the newsletter?to see it all, please subscribe!

Cancer Full Moon at 11:29 PM Pacific time on January 8th at 18 Cancer 25

The only aspect is a quincunx to Pallas. Without other significant input, this Full Moon may bring its great, shining luminosity to bear on that single relationship, exaggerating what should be a call to adjustment until it feels like a full-blown emergency centered on our ability to exercise good judgment. The Sabian may help: ?A Priest Performing a Marriage Ceremony? We have few bigger points in life at which we must exercise good judgment than the one(s) at which we choose the life partner; the question then becomes (for I?m assuming that for the vast majority of us, this is not literal) to what am I marrying myself, that I should perhaps understand more about? The fact that the aspect of Moon/ Earth to Pallas is a quincunx alerts us to the need for adjustment or modification, so that when we see the Sabian we know that there is a union in the offing that needs, in some important way, to be altered (no church pun intended!)

Look to the House in the natal chart where the Full Moon falls for clues as to the life arenas where you are merging with something that definitely needs your attention; the promise is that you will find something that needs correction or modification?and that this will likely bring the ?wedding? successfully to fulfillment.

The rest of the report is available in the newsletter?I value what I do, and I hope you do, too?that?s why it?s only $5 per month, affordable and informative!

Galaxy Nexus to Arrive in White for UK Next Month

Who wants to have the same color phone as everyone else?

The Galaxy Nexus is unique in that it carries Google's 'Nexus' moniker alongside Samsung's 'Galaxy' branding. This represents the first time that Google has allowed the manufacturing partner of one of its Nexus phones to have an equal share in the name of the device and indicates that Samsung was a little more than just a third party manufacturer. As such, it seems only right that the Galaxy Nexus get the same treatment as the Galaxy S, the Galaxy S II, the Nexus S and numerous other Samsung devices in that it will be available in both black and white. This makes the Nexus One the only Nexus device that was not offered in white.

UK retailer Clove is now taking pre-orders for a white version of the Galaxy Nexus, which will supposedly launch on February 6. Pricing for this snowy white Galaxy Nexus is set at ?498, the same price Clove is charging for the black model. Shipping to the U.S. is available for those that can't wait to see when this phone will arrive in the U.S. For those who can sit on their wallets a while longer, we'll update you when we know more.

I actually joined back in 2010, but never got around to actually doing anything here. I ended up losing internet a few months later and didn't manage to get it back until yesterday. So needless to say, I'm itching to get into a good roleplay or two, and I have plenty of ideas for some of my own.

But before I do that, I just thought I'd reintroduce myself. So- I'm RedJ, and I've been roleplaying for a few years now. I'm mainly interested in Fantasy roleplays, but I've been known to take part in a few anime/video game/book series based RPs so long as it doesn't interfere with the canon of that series. Annnnnd that's pretty much it.
